About Acai berries
Posted under Acai-BerriesAcai berries, the fruits of the acai palm, resemble grapes in shape and color. One inch or 25 mm is the normal size of an acai fruit. These fruits are produced in the branched panicles of the palm. One can find seven hundred to nine hundred fruits in a panicle. Depending on the type of the berry, the berries will turn to dark purple or green in color when they become ripe.
Acai palms produce two crops a year. The size of the single large seed contained in the fruit will be around 7 to 10 mm in diameter. The mesocarp, the fleshy part, of the fruit that contains the pulp, has a uniform thickness of 1 mm or less. The seed or the endocarp of the fruit makes up about eight percent of the fruit.
Acai fruit is an important ingredient in almost all the food prepared by the Amazon people of Brazil.
